ARMS is an automated residential misting system, fed by the home's own recycled water and stored underground — so it still works when the city main runs dry.

Why the roof-hose approach fails

Every wildfire produces the same footage: aluminum wheels melted into puddles, a house gone to the foundation, and the grass and trees around it still green. Homes burn because embers land on dry surfaces. Anyone who has hosed down a roof on the Fourth of July already understands the fix.

The problem is doing it at scale, automatically, when it counts. When a whole neighborhood opens its taps at once, pressure in the city main collapses and hydrants and sprinkler systems go quiet. Fire-only systems that sit idle for years plug up. And nobody is home at 3 a.m. holding a hose.

What ARMS changes

  • Its own water. Household wastewater and rain are collected, treated, and stored underground. The city main is a backup, not the source.
  • Runs every day, not just in emergencies. A light daily mist keeps the roof clean, the landscape moist, and the nozzles and pumps proven — so the system is never discovered broken on the day it matters.
  • Uniform coverage. Computer-controlled zones distribute water evenly across the roof and perimeter, and can be triggered automatically, manually, or by early detection.
  • Nothing wasted. Overflow from the storage tank irrigates the landscape and recharges the soil.

Designed by someone who has built this before

Sam Nakhleh is a chemical engineer with forty years in water and wastewater treatment. At Dow he led the development of hydrophilic membranes that underpin desalination worldwide. He founded EPS, an engineering firm that designed custom recycling systems for clients from IBM to New York City Sanitation, and later became part of Veolia. His specialty was water recycling for buildings with no sewer connection — the exact problem ARMS solves for a home in a fire zone.
